Cipla Receives ₹773 Crore Demand Notice from Income Tax Department

Drug major Cipla has announced that it has received a ₹773.44 crore demand notice from the Income Tax Department for the assessment years 2015-16 to 2022-23. This notice, issued through assessment and re-assessment orders dated July 12, 2024, demands additional tax due to various disallowances of expenses, as stated by the Mumbai-based drugmaker in a regulatory filing.

The demand of ₹773.44 crore excludes any potential refunds for the mentioned assessment years. Cipla has expressed its disagreement with the tax demands, stating, “The company believes that the demands under the above referred orders are not tenable in law.”

Cipla is confident in its position, citing adequate factual and legal grounds to support its case. The company does not foresee any significant impact on its financial or operational performance due to this order. It plans to pursue appeals against these orders under the applicable laws.

On the same day the announcement was made, Cipla’s shares closed 0.56% lower, at ₹1,507.50 per share on the BSE.

दवा क्षेत्र की प्रमुख कंपनी सिप्ला ने घोषणा की है कि उसे कर निर्धारण वर्ष 2015-16 से 2022-23 के लिए आयकर विभाग से ₹773.44 करोड़ का डिमांड नोटिस मिला है। 12 जुलाई, 2024 को कर निर्धारण और पुनर्मूल्यांकन आदेशों के माध्यम से जारी यह नोटिस, खर्चों की विभिन्न अस्वीकृतियों के कारण अतिरिक्त कर की मांग करता है, जैसा कि मुंबई स्थित दवा निर्माता ने एक नियामक फाइलिंग में कहा है।

₹773.44 करोड़ की मांग में उल्लिखित कर निर्धारण वर्षों के लिए किसी भी संभावित रिफंड को शामिल नहीं किया गया है। सिप्ला ने कर मांगों से अपनी असहमति व्यक्त करते हुए कहा, “कंपनी का मानना ​​है कि उपरोक्त संदर्भित आदेशों के तहत मांगें कानून में मान्य नहीं हैं।”

सिप्ला अपनी स्थिति पर आश्वस्त है, अपने मामले का समर्थन करने के लिए पर्याप्त तथ्यात्मक और कानूनी आधारों का हवाला देती है। कंपनी को इस आदेश के कारण अपने वित्तीय या परिचालन प्रदर्शन पर कोई महत्वपूर्ण प्रभाव नहीं दिखता है। यह इन आदेशों के खिलाफ लागू कानूनों के तहत अपील करने की योजना बना रहा है। जिस दिन यह घोषणा की गई, उसी दिन बीएसई पर सिप्ला के शेयर 0.56% गिरकर ₹1,507.50 प्रति शेयर पर बंद हुए।
